Sinusitis - Treatment

Sinusitis - Treatment

Now a day, SINUS is be biggest issue especially in Middle East Zone. People are working and living with two atmospheres all day or night. People are living here with two seasons most of the time, summer and winter. Summer is actually very hot and it is reaching to 50 Celsius sometimes where people are living in very hot summer and using Air conditions to make balance in the body against outsider hot winds and sun light.

True misery is the pain and swelling caused by sinus inflammation. The bones around the nose, the eyes and the cheeks are lined with membranes that produce mucus, which function to warm and moisten inhaled air, plus to filter out any germs. When congested and unable to drain properly, the mucus continues to accumulate, stagnate and become infected.

Sinus infections can be bacterial, viral, or fungal in origin and can be in the various sinus cavities or the nasal passages.  An acute sinus infection refers to those of short duration whereas those with chronic sinus infections have episodes lasting more than 10 days and occurring 3 or more times per year.

There are 4 sets of sinus cavities:

1. Frontal sinuses (in the forehead)
2. Maxillary sinuses (behind the cheek bones)
3. Ethmoid sinuses (between the eyes), and
4. Sphenoid sinuses (behind the eyes).

Besides the three forms of infections allergens may also trigger sinusitis.  The irritation of allergens or the damage done by infection causes inflammation and an increase and thickening of mucus.  These then compound the restriction of airflow and the normal passage of mucus.  Since the normal passage of mucus removes undesirable bacteria so restriction then again compounds the problem by not expelling bacteria and potentially leading to a secondary infection.

Essential oils are particularly effective since many are antibacterial, antifungal, as well as antiviral.  Other oils are effective in dealing with the symptoms of runny nose, itchy eyes, etc.

There are a number of causes for chronic sinus infections:

· Excessive dairy consumption (Ice Cream, Yogurt, Cheese, Milk)
· Food allergies
· Environmental allergies
· Dental infection
· Tobacco and pollution irritation
· Fungal infection in the sinus cavity
· Colds and flu symptoms

Diet:
During infection eat in moderation, with an emphasis on whole grains, beans, lentils, soups, and cold-pressed oils, lightly cooked vegetables. Avoid mucus-forming foods such as, flour products, fried and processed foods, eggs, chocolate, sugar and dairy products. Drink plenty of pure good quality water.
Herbs
Include cayenne pepper, garlic, onion, and horseradish in your soups and meals, to help dissolve and eliminate excess mucus. As per the self-care guide, Prescription for Natural Cures, a powerful drainage remedy is to eat a small spoonful of crushed horseradish mixed with lemon juice, but make sure to be near a sink when your nose starts running. Japanese horseradish in the form of Wasabi paste taken with meals can also provide a quick release to the nasal passages.
Apple cider vinegar
At the first sign of infection combine 1-2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in six ounces of water, a teaspoon of raw honey or stevia to sweeten and drink three times a day for five days. The apple cider vinegar helps to thin congested mucus, so it can be easily eliminated.
Grapefruit seed extract (G.S.E.):
This citrus extract is a powerful natural antibiotic and is used to inhibit microbes, parasites, bacteria, viruses and 30 types of fungi including Candida yeast. For sinus infections you can purchase GSE as a nasal spray and use it as an adjunct to your treatment protocol.
Neti pot
Dissolve a teaspoon of sea salt in two cups of warm water. Standing over a sink fill the Neti pot with one cup of water and place the tip of the spout into one nostril.

Tilt your head to the side and allow the water to run out through the opposite nostril. Careful not to tilt your head back and up or the water will re-route down your throat. Refill the Neti pot and repeat with the other nostril again.
Approximately, 40 million Americans suffer from chronic sinusitis, many of which can be alleviated with a change of diet and a few natural remedies used as a daily protocol. I have mentioned five treatments that have proven effective in clearing sinus inflammation, but I am aware that there are others.
If you have found natural ways to cure or control sinus infections for yourself or family please feel free to share them with SpiceKnowledge readers in the Comments section below. This way, we can change the world and the people who live in.
